After you have found the type of your deck, the next thing is to know the pressure that it can withstand for cleaning. Excessive amount of pressure may remove the dirt but it may also take away some of the wood from the deck, making it look unpleasant.

The maximum permissible pressure for cleaning purpose is 1500 PSI. But it is enough pressure to destroy some soft wood decks and leave lay marks on the composite ones. So the lesson to be remembered is less is better when it comes to pressure washing.

The Prefect Pressure Washer

After analyzing the deck it is important to know the right machine for your job. Now, the pressure washer comes in various shapes and sizes. Some require detergent; others require bleach as a catalyst. Whatever you choose, do read the manufacturer’s directions carefully as it may come quite handy.

How To Use a Pressure Washer?

First, start with the conventional way of scrubbing the deck with a brush. A hard bristle brush must be added to the cleaning deck arsenal. Now, only one brush may not be enough to clean every part of the deck. Hence, different sets of brushes must be used to reach every corner of the deck.

Once the deck is properly scrubbed, the pressure washer comes to play. The outlet from which water stream flows out is known as ‘tip’ which is rated in degrees. Do not direct the tip of the washer directly on the deck at zero degree angle. It may ruin the deck. It is advised to direct the water stream at a minimum angle of 40 degrees or 60 degrees. One must be consistent in the length from which the water stream is directed on to the deck, this would prevent uneven water marks. Run the tip closely along the board for hard stains. Utmost precautions must be taken while cleaning the corners. Water has nowhere to go and may splash back on your face. Once you run the washer thoroughly on the entire deck, leave it to dry.
